Character-Building

Our end goal is to teach these vulnerable kids how to think, not what to think.  We want to show them how to be encouraged in their failures as well as their successes.  There can be both good and bad consequences to our actions, and we aim to cultivate the confidence to make good decisions, even amidst pressure from peers to make bad ones.

To ensure the effectiveness of its character education component, Pure Game utilizes the S.T.A.R. Program (Stop, Think, Act, Review), a research-based character development curriculum created by the Passkeys-Jefferson Center for Character Education. This curriculum has been developed to:

Motivate--So they can do what they never thought possible and soar beyond their current horizons.
Teach--In a strategic manner to reach each individual where he or she is.
Affirm--In the areas where they are making the most progress.
Correct—With encouragement that creates hope about moving forward.
