In 2012, Pure Game served over 5,000 underprivileged and at-risk children with its character-building soccer programs. Each of these 5,000 children has a unique story, with daily challenges and constant adversity in their day-to-day lives.
Most of the children who participate in Pure Game’s soccer programs live at or below poverty level. Because their parents are busy working to try to make ends meet, they have difficulty supervising their children. The lack of supervision leads to higher delinquency rates and makes youth and children more likely to drop out of school, get involved in violent activity, become teen parents, and repeat the cycle of poverty in which they have grown up. Pure Game strives to disrupt this cycle, using the world’s most popular sport to teach kids how to believe in themselves, break free from their current circumstances and provide a place of belonging and encouragement.
Pure Game believes in the potential of each child. Pure Game also believes that more important than the obstacles these children face are the opportunities that exist for each of them if they learn how to realize their potential, learn how to be confident, learn how to contribute to the community and learn how to make positive choices in life that reflect their uniqueness.
For the next 2 months, Pure Game will highlight some of the children – the Rising Stars. These Rising Star highlights will provide a look inside the children’s dreams and aspirations and how Pure Game is positively affecting them.
