Welcome to the Character Matters School Program, a partnership between San Diego Loyal SC and PureGame. Our program uses the power of soccer and sport-based activities to teach students essential life skills and promote character education and social emotional learning. Through engaging and inclusive experiences, we aim to empower students, foster positive relationships, and support their personal growth. CURRICULUM AND TEACHING PLATFORM
PureGame's curriculum focusses on the decision-making process for responsible and moral thinking. This curriculum is designed to assist children in understanding Success Through Accepting Responsibility.
PureGame’s programming combines free, fun, simplified soccer play coupled with character education. Field Champions show students how they can STOP, creating time for students to THINK, and assess the consequences of their ACTIONS, and later REVIEW the results of their choices. In doing this, students are able to decide whether their actions will move them closer to, or further away from their goals.
Our staff are caring mentors known as Field Champions. Our staff understand the need for positive role models and mentors because many of them live in the communities we serve. They have local knowledge and expertise that helps them connect with the children in a way that creates lasting change.

The program is designed to help students stay physically active, develop essential life skills such as enhance mental resilience, leadership, teamwork, communication, and decision-making, using soccer as a platform.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO LOYAL SOCCER CLUB
Launched on June 19, 2019, San Diego Loyal SC is a men’s professional soccer team that competes in The USL Championship, one of the fastest-growing professional soccer leagues in the world. In its third season in 2022, San Diego Loyal SC saw record crowds at Torero Stadium (University of San Diego) and secured a second consecutive playoff spot. The club is led by Chairman Andrew Vassiliadis, the youngest principal owner in The USL Championship. Landon Donovan, one of the most decorated soccer players in the U.S., leads the technical side as Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and veteran soccer executive, Ricardo Campos, serves as Club President.
